It became the capital of Meghalaya upon the creation of this new state in 1972. It also serves as the district headquarters of East Khasi Hills. Shillong is sometime called the Scotland Of The East because of its pristine beauty and the lush green hills that encapsulate it beautifully. Apart from the natural beauty, Shillong also acts as the gateway to Meghalaya, the state famous for heavy rainfall, caves, tallest waterfalls, beautiful landscapes and amazing people and their culture.
